LWIR lenses often utilize Germanium. Its strong durability, non-reactive chemical properties, and high Knoop hardness make it an ideal choice for harsh environments. However, one disadvantage of Germanium lenses is their vulnerability to significant defocusing caused by temperature changes in specific situations. In cases where temperature fluctuations are expected, we recommend our ZnSe LWIR lenses, which provide more stable focusing even with large temperature variations.
